About Our School

Our Mission

Through the lens of the Catholic faith, we, The NativityMiguel School of Scranton, seek to empower our students, of all races and beliefs, to reach their full potential. We offer a holistic approach to academic and character development through our core values of faith and honor, integrity and respect, and leadership and perseverance.

Our Philosophy

We are a private, Catholic, co-educational, tuition-free/all-scholarship middle school institution proudly serving ethnically and religiously diverse students of greater economic need in grades 5-8. Historically, our students have come from Lackawanna and Luzerne counties, but we accept students from anywhere in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Like all NativityMiguel model schools, we offer an extended school day, with our academic day starting at 8:00am and ending at 4:45pm. We also offer an extended school year, with students participating in our rigorous academic program during the traditional school year and in our Summer Program, which is a four-week academic enrichment program that focuses on reading, math, and writing.

In addition to our academically rigorous program, we are committed to educating our students in the arts and humanities, with subjects ranging from music, art, architecture, health, Strings, and more.

Lastly, we are committed to our students even after they leave NMS. Through our Graduate Support Program (GSP), which is another hallmark of a NativityMiguel model school, we continue to provide academic, career, and social/emotional assistance to our graduates through high school, college, and even after college. In all, we commit to our students for 12 years.

Our Results

The NMS graduating classes of 2019 and 2020 were admitted to several prestigious, private, Catholic, college preparatory institutions, including Scranton Preparatory School (Scranton, PA), Holy Cross High School (Dunmore, PA), Milton Hershey School (Hershey, PA), and Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School (Kingston, PA). They have been awarded over $1.9 million dollars in scholarships and financial aid over their four years of high school. It is our hope that these young men and women will continue onto college and universities, becoming empowered learners and leaders in the local and global communities.
